The two Spanish courses offered are SPAN3020 (Advanced Composition & Conversation) SPAN4090s (Practicum in Service Learning). SPAN 3020, a required course for Spanish majors and minors, focuses on improving oral and written skills through the use of literature and film. SPAN 4090s will get the student in and about the community of San Luis participating in projects to enhance the lives of the town's residents. You might help build a park, create a reading program from children, or assist in a local farm.  The students signed up for SPAN courses will be have the amazing opportunity to participate in a seven-day homestay, i.e. live with local families.  Non-Spanish students may have the experience if they request it prior to departure from the program director.

Is writing is your passion?  Whether you write to delight or inform, this program provides you with three courses to choose from: ENGL 3800W (Introduction to Creative Writing) and  JRLC 5990 (Environmental Communication).  JRLC 5990 goes beyond the headlines to provide students with the critical language and storytelling tools to make sense of our changing planet. Using a pedagogy based on "Place" and "Experience," students develop a multi-media portfolio to prepare for careers in the growing field of Environmental Communication. The course is taught by Andy Kavoori, Professor and Coordinator of the Environmental Communication Initiative in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. To learn more about the course, email Dr. Kavoori (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and visit the class website http://envtjour.uga.eduENGL 3800W  will allow students to explore the work of inpiring, established writers while generating their own jewel-like, surprising and unpredictable pieces in the glorious setting of the Costa Rica mountainous rainforest.

ARST 2220 (Introduction to Photography Fieldwork) will help the students explore their creativity and talent.  The course provides a great opportunity  to use creative processes to study, observe, interpret, and derive meaning from a visit abroad. As a result of their experiences and reflections, the students will then create a process-portfolio of original works that demonstrates the ways their art and ways of thinking have been informed by their international study experience. The course will emphasize field experience, utilizing images to engage conceptual content. Techniques will include camera controls, composition, quality of light, editing, and printing. The work of other prominent photographers will be explored along with related assignments that combine theory and example with field photography.
